About Us

Our Primary Goal:
Owner Training & Education

The Sharp K9 strives to provide not only training to dogs, but ample education to owners and their families.

The #1 reason your dog "acts up" or fails to listen after being trained is improper owner follow-up.

With that in mind, we focus our training services on owner education and practice FIRST, and dog training SECOND.

Meet the Trainer

Rachael Lauren

Rachael, founder of The Sharp K9, started training dogs as a young child in her childhood home, located in Monument, CO. She aided in the care of multiple family dogs, including huskies, bull-mixes and border collies. This is where her love for working dogs was born.

She has been studying dog training in-depth since high school, learning alongside neighbor's dogs. She delved even further into the subject when she adopted her first Belgian Malinois puppy and soon-to-be service dog, Cedar, in January of 2022.

Rachael trained Cedar to aid her with her own disabilities while also painstakingly studying US laws pertaining to service dogs under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), and the Housing & Urban Development Act (HUD).

She takes pride in her research, and continues to educate other disabled people about their rights.

Rachael spends much of her time pet-sitting, teaching voice & piano lessons, caring for & training Cedar, and learning about aviation with her boyfriend, Jack.

She has been local to the Frederick, Mount Airy and Urbana since she moved here in 2011, when she quickly fell in love with the area.
